'Lt. Mac' Trains Others to Keep Campuses Safe
One lesson centered on a man named Charles.
“ ‘Stutter’ Charles was considered a bum in the gutter,” McClenton, a long-time member of Perimeter College’s police department recalls of the military veteran turned alcoholic who lived in her community. He got his nickname because of the way he stammered when he spoke.
Even with his reputation, McClenton’s mom demanded that her children look after Charles.
“We’d be playing kickball in the streets, and my mother would call us in the house, give us some food and instruct us to go find ‘Stutter’ Charles, give him the food, and make sure he was alright.”
So, when Lt. Mac — as she now prefers being called after marrying and dropping her maiden name Ware — begins to talk about a pro-active and respectful approach to policing, there are no surprises.

Notes From The Vice Provost
Welcome to fall 2018! We’ve enjoyed a busy summer gearing up for new efforts to increase our students’ success. Here are a few updates:
Momentum Year: In July, the University System of Georgia program, the Momentum Year, was introduced officially to our faculty and staff. Dr. Tristan Denley, the USG’s executive vice chancellor for academic affairs and chief academic officer; Dr. Rob Johnstone, former director and dean of the California Community Colleges System and the founder and president of the National Center for Inquiry and Improvement, and Georgia State’s own student success guru, Dr. Tim Renick, senior vice president of student success presented an intensive overview of the program. The dynamic trio explained how the pivotal “Momentum Year” will help our two-year students better navigate their academic experience and set an academic mindset overall. View the presentation here https://cetl.gsu.edu/events/momentum%20-morning/ if you missed it.
