- Biography
Dr. Stuart Noel is a Professor of English, Communication, and Film. He served twelve years as an administrator, first as Department Chair of Humanities, and later as Associate Dean and Dean of English. Dr. Noel has lectured widely both here and abroad. He taught at the University of Surrey-Roehampton in London, England as part of the 2002 European Council of the University System of Georgia’s Study Abroad Program. Subjects of his presentations and articles include Tennessee Williams, Truman Capote, teaching composition, and learning support assessment.
Dr. Noel began teaching full-time in 1996 at Bauder College, a private two-year liberal arts college in Atlanta. In addition to teaching English, he also taught History of Costume and History of Interior Design and Architecture. Also in 1996, he began teaching English as an adjunct professor at Georgia State University. He was hired full-time at Georgia Perimeter College to teach English and Public Speaking in 1999.
In 2007, Dr. Noel presented his paper “Truman Capote’s Swans and Muses” at the New Directions in the Humanities International Conference in Paris, France. In 2008, he presented a paper on learning support assessment at the International Conference of Education, Research, and Innovation in Madrid, Spain. Also, in 2008, he had two chapters published in “Lesson Plans for Teaching Writing” by the National Council of Teachers of English. In 2011, he presented a paper at the Tennessee Williams in Europe: A Centenary Celebration 1911-2011 conference at Nancy-Universite in Nancy, France. In October 2015, Dr. Noel presented his paper “The Use of Prestige Language in Tennessee Williams’s A Streetcar Named Desire” at the International Conference on Languages, Literature, and Linguistics in Paris, France. For the past four years, he has been a visiting scholar and speaker at the Tennessee Williams Tribute Conference in Columbus, MS, Williams’s birth place. He served on the Executive Committee of the South Atlantic Modern Language Association from 2012–2014. Dr. Noel is twice the recipient of the Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers award, and in 2007 he received The Shining Star Faculty Award at Georgia Perimeter College. Dr. Noel annually attends and often presents at the Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival and Scholars Conference, including a panel presentation in 2016 with Dick Cavett. Dr. Noel founded the Truman Capote Literary Society, which he represented in October 2024 at the dedication of the Lee Bouvier Radziwill Granaio at Harvard University’s Villa I Tatti in Florence, Italy.
In March 2019, Dr. Noel moderated the Scholars Conference panel “Hot Off the Press: New Work on Tennessee Williams,” and in March 2024, he moderated the panel “A Truman Capote Reading and Discussion” at the Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival. His article “The Use of Prestige Language in Tennessee Williams’s A Streetcar Named Desire” was recently published in Dramaturgy In Focus. Dr. Noel is currently editing the book Studies in the Works and Life of Truman Capote for Cambridge Scholars Publishing.
