Maria has worked in corporate communications since the 1970s–at the Wharton School, at Business International (with Barack Obama), on Wall Street, and at Coca-Cola, among others. Originally from the New York/New Jersey area, she moved to Atlanta in the late 1980s and started tutoring part-time at the Lawrenceville campus of Georgia Perimeter College when her now-grown son started middle school.
