Laura King
Associate Professor Business Administration- Biography
Laura King earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting and then her Master’s in Accounting, emphasis in taxation, from the University of Georgia. She passed the CPA exam and worked in the tax division of PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP for three years. She began teaching at “DeKalb College” at the Dunwoody Campus and subsequently taught on the Rockdale, Newton, Clarkston, Online and Decatur campuses. Laura has taught for 21 years, taking a six-year break after 10 years to raise three sons. She has earned tenure twice and has been promoted to Associate Professor.
Laura is active in her profession. She served as Secretary-Treasurer, Vice-President and President for the Georgia Association of Accounting Educators. She has served on several committees of the Georgia Association of CPAs. She passed the CFE exam in 2014 and holds the designation of Certified Fraud Examiner. She is a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and the Georgia Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
She has had a tax preparation business, been a small business consultant and served as mayor and CEO of Rutledge, Georgia.Laura’s interests include supporting (growing, buying and eating) local and organic agriculture, and sustainable energy. She has supported the Georgia Solar Energy Association since its inception, and installed solar panels on her home in 2015.
