Perimeter College Innovation Challenge (Fall 2024)
PCIC 2024
The Perimeter College Innovation Challenge is designed to inspire and empower Perimeter students to develop entrepreneurial solutions to real-world problems. Modeled after the Community College Innovation Challenge, this competition encourages students to use their creativity, problem-solving skills, and entrepreneurial abilities to address pressing issues in their communities.
Participants will form interdisciplinary teams to identify a specific challenge or opportunity within their community. Along with a faculty mentor, these teams will brainstorm, design, and develop innovative solutions, which they will present in a pitch competition at the end of the challenge to a panel of judges composed of industry experts, academics, and community leaders.
The challenge emphasizes the importance of entrepreneurial skills in creating impactful change. Throughout the competition, students will have access to mentorship from faculty and professionals, workshops to enhance their entrepreneurial skills, and resources to support the development of their projects.
The Perimeter College Innovation Challenge provides a platform for students to showcase their ingenuity and technical skills, bridging the gap between academic knowledge and practical application. By participating, students will gain valuable experience, build their professional networks, and potentially see their innovative ideas come to life, making a lasting impact on their communities.

Community College Innovation Challenge
The CCIC is led by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) in partnership with the National Science Foundation (NSF). It is a national competition where community college student teams, working with a faculty or administrator mentor, use science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to innovate solutions to real-world problems; participate in an Innovation Boot Camp; and compete for cash awards.
Our student Design Team received 1st Place in the Community College Innovation Challenge for its Gorginea Care project, which provides easily accessible testing tools for cervical precancer screening. The team consists of three Perimeter students, Sophia Bereket, Shalom Ejiwunmi, and Rakeb Tesfassellasie alongside mentor Janna Blum.
