Job: – Administrative Assistant
Years at the college – 27 years
Present position – Administrative Assistant – Health Professions – Dunwoody Campus
Can you describe the work you do each day?
Administrative assistants wear a lot of hats! In my job, I’m responsible for many things, from greeting and guiding visitors to the appropriate places or connecting them with the appropriate individuals, to overseeing student assistants and work-study students to handling faculty contracts and issues. I enter classes into Banner, and deal with travel reimbursement for the department as well as procurement orders for the office. There are always meetings to schedule and events to plan. No day is the same.
How do you think your work impacts student success and the college?
Impact is about results. It’s incremental progress toward a goal and small wins that lead to big outcomes. Each employee needs to see how their work is contributing to their individual goals, and the success of the team, those whom they serve, and the organization of which they are a part. I believe in being proactive in each interaction with students. I believe that a comprehensive approach to well-being is the key driver of student success: Set systems and routines. Let students set the pace. Increase student engagement. Keep all stakeholders involved. Increase student ownership. Set high expectations. And have fun!
What is the most satisfying project you’ve worked on?
I have several! My favorites are:
Working with the State Farm Golf Tournament
Working on the development of the food pantry on the Clarkston Campus
Working on the Science Olympiad
Volunteering at graduation
Tell us something that about yourself that might surprise others.
I was on Hemodialysis for five years. I received a kidney transplant Dec. 2022.
