Joe Patterson is an Associate Professor of Accounting at Perimeter College of Georgia State University. He grew up in Jackson, Mississippi, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Mississippi State University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Emory University. He has taught at Perimeter College since 1987 (at the Decatur Campus from 1987-1990, at the Clarkston Campus from 1990-2004, and at the Lawrenceville Campus from 2004-2008). He currently teaches Principles of Accounting I and II online. He served as the Assistant Department Chair of the Business and Social Sciences Department at the Clarkston Campus from 1998-2004, the Assistant Department Chair of the Business Department at the Lawrenceville Campus from 2005-2007, and the Online Coordinator for Business and Kinesiology and Health courses in 2008-2009.
He is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the DeKalb Chapter of the Georgia Society of CPAs; he serves on the Chapter’s Scholarship Committee. He is also a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the American Accounting Association, and the Georgia Association of Accounting Educators. He enjoys traveling internationally with a small group of friends. He lives in Decatur with his wife Barbara (Bobbi), a Professor in the Department of Religion at Emory University, and Lobo (Spanish for wolf), a Siberian Husky.
