BRIAN BONIN, Coordinator of Vocal Music at Perimeter College, most recently performed the title role in Mozart’s Don Giovanni with Peach State Opera. Having completed this dream role, he has now performed all of the Mozart/DaPonte operas with the company, having already portrayed Guglielmo in Così fan tutte (2014) and Count Almaviva in The Marriage of Figaro (2012). In summer 2015, Dr. Bonin performed Joseph DeRocher in Dead Man Walking for the Louisiana Concert Movement, with composer Jake Heggie and Sister Helen Prejean in attendance. He has also sung with Opéra Louisiane, New Orleans Opera, Opera in the Ozarks, the Aspen Opera Theater Center, the Baisley Powell Elebash Opera Theater and LSU Opera Theater in roles such as Guglielmo in Così fan tutte, Schaunard in La bohème, Count Ceprano in Rigoletto, Junius in The Rape of Lucretia, Voltaire/Pangloss/Cacambo/Martin in Candide, King Melchior in Amahl and the Night Visitors, the Speaker in The Magic Flute, and Johann in Werther. In the summer of 2009, he performed Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro with the Lyric Opera Studio of Weimar in Weimar, Germany.
An avid art song interpreter, Dr. Bonin has worked with pianist collaborators Martin Katz and John Keene, American art song interpreter Paul Sperry, spiritual arranger Moses Hogan and singers Christòpheren Nomura and Jennifer Larmore. He has sung a variety of recital programs ranging from Schubert’s bleak, monumental song cycle Winterreise to an evening of humorous songs about animals. Upcoming engagements include reprising Don Giovanni for Capitol City Opera’s “Dinner and a Diva” program and a duo recital tour with mezzo soprano Leanne Pettit-Clement.
